Rhonda Rice Hatfield started taking piano lessons at the age of 6 years old. Music was her passion at a very early age. At 12 years old, she began filling in for the pianist at her church, as well as exploring other instruments. When her parents and close family friends opened Country Village Restaurant in Tickfaw, Louisiana, her love for music and the stage grew exponentially. After a long night of working in the restaurant, she and the other owner’s and Country Village Band musician’s kids would flood the stage and “practice” their own music late into the night. This group of kids would eventually be known as “The Potscrubbers” and became a Country Village favorite. During her years of playing Country Gospel music at Country Village and Countryside Baptist Church, Rhonda developed her ability to play music by ear as well as by reading sheet music. She learned how to perform in front of large groups of people and how to improvise when she was thrown a new song at the last minute (which happened often!). At the age of 16, after studying piano under several local teachers; she moved on to study under a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University. Rhonda has served as pianist at several churches over the last 20 years from California to Louisiana. She has written and copyrighted several of her own worship songs which were part of the regular repertoire of the band, Safe Arbor. In March of 2009, Rhonda began teaching piano lessons from her home. She loves to spread the love of music to children and adults who express a desire to learn. She is confident in her ability to teach early beginners to advanced students in music, theory and performance skills. Her passion is working with people who have disabilities and/or exceptionalities. Rhonda has a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University. She is currently completing her certification in Music Education and plans to pursue her Master's Degree in Music Theory in the near future. She is currently the Music Director at Courtney Christian School in Hammond and enjoys volunteering with her many friends at OPTIONS. Rhonda has served as the pianist for the Southeastern Louisiana University Wind Symphony, SLU Jazz Lab Band and was also a member of Southeastern's Bella Voce (Women's Choir). She is currently on staff as the pianist at her church.
Rhonda is married to her amazingly supportive husband, Nathan, and they have 4 children. She is extremely excited about teaching and encouraging a new generation of music lovers! Anyone can learn to be a musician and use their talents to glorify God!
